The oldest community event in the U.S. commemorates the reoccupation of Santa Fe led by Don Diego de Vargas in 1692, a dozen years after the Pueblo Indian Revolt. The city pulls out all the stops for this annual celebration, starting with the Burning of Zozobra, the dramatic torching of a 49-foot tall marionette that groans and grimaces as he goes up in flames and fireworks at Fort Marcy Park, burning away everyone's troubles from the past year. His ending marks the beginning of Fiesta, filled with music, dance, food, the beloved Children's Pet Parade, religious ceremonies and more. Blending pageantry with revelry and treasured traditions, Fiesta is a favorite time for visitors and locals alike!

Enjoy an exhibition of rarely seen works created by Georgia O'Keeffe that were inspired by her travels to places outside the U.S., including Hawaii, Peru and Asia. This show runs concurrently with Jimson Weed Returns from the White House, an exhibit centered on her famous Jimson Weed painting, which was displayed in the White House for the past eight years and has now returned to the museum.

Dancing Shadows, Epic Tales: Wayang Kulit of Indonesia pays tribute to Indonesia's shadow puppet performance, which is among the world's oldest and greatest storytelling traditions. This exhibit celebrates the flat leather puppets that are colorfully decorated and perforated, which creates dramatic shadows when performed. These puppet performances are used to mark life's passages in Indonesia.

Cochiti and Santo Domingo pueblos may be separated by the Rio Grande, but for centuries they shared ceramic traditions. Influences from the outside world, however, brought major changes that resulted in the pueblos pursuing markedly different paths in their pottery styles. With 250 pieces from the museum's collection, this exhibit illustrates those differences, and provides a fascinating look at the history and communities of these pueblos.
